Happy, happy, happy cry the words
on the page. Cry the random
persons walking your life.
Some wear mourning
or is it the five crows silent
in the tree. Ask him now world,
he’s ready, he can fire up the engine
and drive west into next week.
Stop at the Costco bargain counter.
Finger the pretty colors. Pick up
three tee shirts and put them on
one by one. Don’t wait another
blessed minute to be looking good.
I really like this one John.

Another unassailable poem, in my opinion. It has the right mix of language, attitude, and gravitas. The premiss is indubitable and obvious. There is nothing left to do but move out and head West!
When you write poems that are merely good, I think “John is busy.” When you write ’em like this, and some recent others, I think, “John is on a roll.”
